Inventory before redesigning

Export indexable URLs, landing pages that bring relevant traffic or inquiries, and important internal links. Map each old URL to a genuinely equivalent new page. Redirecting every removed page to the homepage is rarely useful; retain pages with distinct intent and merge overlaps only when the replacement answers the same need.

Validate the new site

Inspect rendered HTML, titles, canonicals, language alternates, structured data, and internal links. Confirm robots and the sitemap describe production URLs, and that forms and inquiry measurement actually work. Test redirects without chains. A beautiful new interface cannot compensate for pages that search engines cannot reach.

Monitor the launch

Submit the sitemap in Search Console and review crawl errors, indexed pages, and organic landing pages. Some movement is normal; investigate concrete failures such as 404s, noindex tags, and missing content. Include migration in the website development scope. Google’s site-move documentation is a useful reference.
